Mount Le Conte

Waterfall on the hike down Mt Le Conte

Something I haven’t done in a long time, is go hiking, and it has been a really long time since I have been on a major hike. This weekend I was able to go to Gatlinburg with Danielle and her family. 15 of her family, friends climbed up the mountain. We started at 5:30 am & finished at 3:00 pm. Everyone else started later and finished before we did. Took us about 9 hours to climb. Would like to go back sometime with my nephew or someone else and try to make it up there faster, maybe get up there in about four hours. Mount Le Conte has several different trails to go up. We tool the Alan Cove trail, a little over 5 mile hike, and the top’s elevation is over 6,000 ft. Her family was able to reserve a cabin on top of Mt. Le Conte, it was awesome to be able to stay up there for the night and come back down the next morning after an excellent breakfast. The dinner was very good too, get a little hungry after climbing up the mountain. I can’t wait to go back next year!

Danielle & I, on top of Mt Le Conte, in the lodge area.

After we made it to the bottom!!!

WARNING: I am venting about a co-worker of mine

Who here has an annoying coworker that you work with daily? Please raise your hand, if you could visualize me, being in front of you right now, you would definitely see my hand raised high up in the air.

I’m pretty good, I mean I try to get along with everyone I work with, no matter who it is, but this annoying coworker is starting to get on my everlasting freaking nerves!

While talking to my girlfriend the other day about it, we all seem to have a crazy coworker, that we unfortunately have to work with everyday, she has to deal with a crazy pants where she works. I really feel sorry for her.

This guy that I work with, went to another shift for a while, it was such a relief, never been so relieved before when he switched shifts, but he’s back.

Some of the things that really get on my nerves is, when he decides to do something without telling me that we are allowed to do this or that, that happened last week, he decides to do this, and not tell me anything about it, he seems to like leaving me in the dark about things.

Yesterday in a matter of fact, I asked him, “I noticed in activity that you had a discussion with our supervisor about a program we use on the computer, what was the discussion about, what were the issues with the program?” His response was, “I have no idea, I didn’t write it down.” I asked again, “So why was this thing, this discussion written down?” His response was, “Talk to your immediate supervisor.” My reaction was, under my breath, wtf? Why can’t you just tell me what it was about, instead of making me ask our supervisor. Of course later on I ask my supervisor about it, he tells me that my coworker knows exactly what they were talking about, that he was lying etc. So I asked him, what happened? He ended up telling me everything that was said between the two, hmm, why couldn’t my annoying coworker tell me straight off the bat?

Then there are other things that go along with him, I may ask him to do something that would help me out, his response would be, ok, or maybe or something along those lines, and instead of doing what I asked, he would clearly ignore what I would say.

So when he is at work, he thinks that he is doing a good job, but I can definitely see that he is not a team player at all. He tries to be independent, sometimes he acts like he is still a supervisor, he used to be a while ago, but couldn’t handle it and stepped down.

Just trying to talk to him about anything, he may respond back when one sentence, then the conversation is over…he’s just not a talker at all.

From what I can tell, and other coworkers of mine. We know he has a major personality disorder. So anything that he does or doesn’t do, we just blame on the personality disorder, there is nothing else much to it then that.

It just makes it so much harder to work with him, with his personality disorder, I’ve been so helpful toward him, but I don’t get anything in return. I’m thinking from now on, if he asks me any questions, etc
I’ll start responding to him, saying go talk to your immediate supervisor. See how he likes it? I sure don’t enjoy it, when he says that.

So I just don’t know what I’m going to do with him, being nice to him, just doesn’t cut it. From now on, I guess I’ll have to record every incident between me and him, nothing else I can really do.

First shift the answer?

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , on March 12, 2011 by USAAirman

After a recent turn of events, I think I would be better off on first shift.

Been doing some thinking about this lately, if I get a chance to go to first shift, I think I will go that route now. Especially if I can get weekends off.

The reasons I say this because, the other day I went to my nephew’s police academy graduation, usually during my sleeping hours. If I would have slept during those hours, I would have been able to make it to Jerry’s birthday celebration which unfortunately I missed. Instead of going to the celebration I ended up having to catch up on sleep instead.

Other reasons, I have been wanting to go to concerts during the week, local bands for example. Been wanting to go to another Justyna Kelley concert, every time she has a concert it’s during the week and not the weekend. So I am missing out on that. I would feel more like a normal person if I sleep at night, and got up during the day, during the morning hours. Right after I get off work, I could go straight to Urban Active and work out for an hour or so, then go home. I think that would work out best for me.

If I had to stay on third longer, that’s fine I can deal with it, I have been doing it for several years now, and it has worked out pretty well for me, but I think I need a change now. Especially if I get more energy during the day, and feel more awake etc. I definitely got to give it a try. Be a hard transition for me, but when I am tired it doesn’t matter what the hours are I’ll sleep. If I sleep better and longer during the night, I’m up to the challenge.

If I don’t get weekends off, it will not be the end of the world, but I do enjoy my weekends off, haven’t had weekends off in several years, so switching shifts will be like having to work up to weekends all over again.

I am not a fan of change, it takes me a while to do something different or well getting used to the idea, getting used to doing it etc.

I just hope this is what is best for me, is first shift the answer?

My nephew’s police academy graduation.

Yesterday I went to my nephew’s police academy graduation.

He finally did it! He had two dreams earlier in life, that he wanted to do. Either join the Army, or become a police officer. He just successfully completed a ten week police training academy, it’s just like basic training only a lot harder, but on the upside he was able to go home every weekend. He wasn’t stuck there every day, compared to new trainees entering into military.

I’m really proud of him, it took him years to get there, started off working a security guard on campus at a college, it took him a year to get on the sheriff’s department, he spent three years in jail as a correction officer. He put in for a patrol job after two years working for the jail he did not get accepted, he tried again was finally accepted for the patrol job. He then started training as a patrol officer in October of 2010. He then started the police academy 69 days ago, for 10 weeks and finally as of yesterday completed his training, his final training would include eight more weeks of patrol, driving the police car with a trainer.

That’s really exciting!

I already asked him, what he would like to do after completing his two years of patrol, he already answered I want to join the S.W.A.T team. Hell yea! Go Brad!

Sacrifice

If you have read my first blog on Lent, you would have noticed I gave up social networking websites, like twitter, facebook, getglue, and foursquare. I was telling Danielle yesterday, that it is like a burden off my shoulders now. It’s kind of nice, not checking twitter, or facebook, or having to check into foursquare or getglue all the time.

I’m thinking that this will work out well for me, it will be a nice break from everything, as you can see though, I am still blogging, and blogging is like an outlet for me. Writing helps me get my mind off of things.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to start Lent right, ended up not being able to go to an Ash Wednesday service like I had planned, better luck next year?

Well so long folks, see yea in about 46 days!

One last thing feel free to make comments to my blogs, I love comments! :-)

Lent

Today starts the beginning of Lent, Ash Wednesday. Tradition every year for Lent I try to give up something, I honestly can’t remember what I have given up in years past, I did give up soda one year, but now hopefully I have given them up for good, I decided about a month ago that I would stop drinking soda, coffee, caffeine & carbonated drinks. Yes every once in a while I’ll drink a Sprite, so far I have done well. I did made a mistake about a weekend or so ago and drank a coke without realizing that I had stopped drinking cokes till after I drank it. It was so refreshing and nice though I’ll give you that.

Had a few friends start asking me, “What are you going to give up for lent?” Then I would tell them I had no idea, I ended up asking twitter what I should give up for lent, and several responses back was to give up twitter.

So I went with it, but even made it more important to me, I figured why not give up twitter and all of the other social networking sites I have been using up. Twitter, facebook, foursquare, and getglue.

On top of that, I was thinking to myself, I need to read more books, I haven’t been reading books lately like I should have, so hopefully Lent will help me change that. Get back into reading, and watching less TV, and movies.

p>So there you have it, if you don’t see me on twitter, facebook, foursquare, or getglue for the next 40 days you know now why.

So to everyone I talk to through one of the sites, I will see you after Easter!

Decisions, Decisions

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , on March 4, 2011 by USAAirman

Sorry guys for not blogging, haven’t been blogging like I should be.

New thing has just come up, for everyone that doesn’t know me, I work 3 rd shift, night shift, graveyard shift what ever you want to call it, and I have been doing it for several years now. I was just asked if I wanted to go to first shift, each time I was asked if I wanted to go to 1 st , or 2 nd I would always tell them nope, I am perfectly fine with 3 rd shift, which is true I was. This time it’s different, I still like third shift don’t get me wrong, hey I’ve always been a night owl. I haven’t gotten tired of 3 rd shift, if I was forced to stay on 3 rd shift it wouldn’t bother me none, I mean I do have the weekends off. I keep getting asked if I want to take 2 nd shift, and I always tell them no, if it’s a shift I do not want it’s definitely 2 nd shift. I am definitely not a morning person either, getting up at 4 in the morning is not my thing. The stuff I do on 3 rd shift will be really different from the things I would be doing on 1 st shift, which I don’t know if I am going to like or not. 3 rd shift requires a lot of moving around, hey…it keeps me awake. 1 st shift requires, more like an office type job. Can I switch from moving around, to a sit down job? I’m stuck, like really stuck at this point. I do not know what I want to do, I really have to think about it, I like my co worker I am working with now, but once things get changed around one of the co workers I used to work with is moving back down to 3 rd shift, I am good with all my co workers, except for the guy coming back to this shift. I can’t stand him. That right there is a big incentive to moving to 1 st .. If I take 1 st shift, I will probably never have weekends off, I’ll have maybe Wednesday & Thursday off, (maybe.). I would love to have weekends off, I mean I will still be able to go out and do things after I get off work, but it just won’t be the same. Taking trips out to different places would be more difficult, would require me to take off work, see now where this is so hard for me to choose between the two shifts? If I did switch to first though, I would become more “normal” of a person though, working during the day, sleeping at night.

So yea, decisions, decisions, what should I do? I’m a very undecided person at this point, help me out here guys!
